Eurostar has cancelled all train services to and from London St Pancras this New Year’s Eve after flooding inside the Channel Tunnel forced the cancellation of 41 Eurostar trains. This unexpected disruption has left many travellers stranded and scrambling to find alternative arrangements.

Flooding has also impacted Southeastern’s high-speed trains to Ebbsfleet, resulting in cancellations for the entire day. No services will run from St Pancras, Stratford International, or Ebbsfleet International stations as the disruption continues. HS1, the track operator, described the flooding as “unprecedented.” Engineers worked through the night to pump out the water, but flood levels remain stubbornly high.

Eurostar, which operates key routes between London, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam, has assured affected customers that they can claim full refunds or swap tickets without any hassle. This latest disruption follows the chaos in December caused by a last-minute French strike, which had already plunged Eurostar travellers into turmoil just before Christmas.

In addition to Eurostar and Southeastern cancellations, other travel services across the UK are facing severe weather-related issues. Thameslink and Northern Rail are experiencing major staff shortages, leading to service cuts across London, the Southeast, and Northern England. Severe weather has shut down the railway between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog in Wales, and flooding has cancelled trains between Swansea and Shrewsbury.

Glasgow Airport has delayed some flights due to snow on the runways. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for large parts of the UK, highlighting risks of wind, snow, and flooding. Power cuts and travel disruptions are expected to continue. Speed limits have been imposed on the West Highland Line as conditions worsen.

Travellers are urged to check live updates and prepare for delays or changes ahead of New Year celebrations to avoid further inconvenience.
