Police are investigating a series of fires that occurred across multiple locations in Harlow during May. The incidents involved derelict sheds, a garage, and a parked vehicle on land off Third Avenue.
Essex Police, working in partnership with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, are conducting inquiries to establish whether these fires are connected.
There was a noticeable spike in local fire incidents throughout May at various sites around Third Avenue, leading to a prompt response from emergency services. The fires affected abandoned properties and vehicles, causing concern among residents about safety and the potential risk of arson.
In response, authorities have increased patrols in the affected area to help prevent further incidents. Essex Police are collaborating closely with council partners and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to strengthen security measures in Harlow.
Planned improvements include the installation of enhanced lighting and CCTV cameras around vulnerable locations to deter offenders and improve public safety.
Chief Inspector Emily Holmes highlighted the seriousness with which the situation is being treated, stating: “We understand the concern these incidents will cause locally and want to reassure residents that we are taking them extremely seriously. Where criminal offences are identified, we will pursue them robustly.”
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information or footage related to the fires to come forward. Reports can be made online or through the live chat service available 24/7 on the Essex Police website.
