Mason Bridle, 18, from Lewisham, was found guilty of murder, while Mario Gruda, 23, from Eltham, was convicted of manslaughter. Both men had denied the charges but were sentenced guilty on Tuesday, 30 March, at Woolwich Crown Court. Their sentencing is scheduled for Friday, 30 April.
The fatal incident took place on 15 March 2020, when police were called to Academy Road at the Shooters Hill junction in Woolwich following reports of a stabbing. The court heard that Gruda, who was driving a car, knocked Cameron Murfitt from his bike. Bridle, the passenger, then exited the vehicle and stabbed Cameron multiple times.
After the attack, the two men fled the scene, leaving Cameron to fight for his life. Passers-by rushed to assist until emergency crews arrived. Despite their efforts, Cameron tragically died at the scene from a stab wound to the thigh, according to the post-mortem report.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard praised the public and Cameron’s family, stating: “I want to thank the members of the public who came to Cameron’s aid and those who helped with this difficult investigation.”
He added, “Cameron’s family has shown quiet dignity throughout the trial. I hope today’s verdicts bring them some closure and ensure these two dangerous men are off our streets.”
Detective Leonard also emphasized the Met Police’s commitment to tackling violent crime: “Reducing violent crime remains the Met’s top priority. We work day and night to remove weapons, engage with communities and keep London safe.”
