Franklin Tomlinson, 61, with no fixed address, has been sentenced to two years and six months in jail at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday 18 February. He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent on 17 February.
The stabbing incident took place on 16 August 2020 at a residence in Burngreave. Tomlinson stabbed his victim, causing serious injuries. One stab wound to the neck was so severe that it nearly killed the victim.
After the attack, Tomlinson fled the scene. The victim was rushed to hospital following a police call. Officers conducted a search for Tomlinson over several days and arrested him on 19 August 2020. He was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
PC Megan Pryce, the lead investigator, commented on the case: “I am pleased with this sentencing result. The attack was incredibly violent and cruel. I’m glad Tomlinson is now off our streets and spending the next two and a half years behind bars.”
She added, “I want to thank the victim for their bravery in coming forward. I hope this sentence helps the healing process.”
PC Pryce also issued a warning: “This should also serve as a warning – South Yorkshire police will not tolerate violent crime. If you’re involved, we will catch you.”
