Lisa Brown, 32, originally from Scotland, disappeared from her home in Guadiaro, San Roque, Spain, on Wednesday 4 November 2015. She lived there with her eight-year-old son. Concern grew when, four days later, Spanish police were alerted after Lisa failed to pick up her son from school. Inside her apartment, signs of a violent struggle were discovered, prompting a full forensic investigation.

Simon Corner, also known as Dean Woods, Lisa’s former boyfriend and a luxury yacht dealer, quickly became the prime suspect. After being questioned, Woods fled Spain. Authorities located and arrested him in Denmark in April 2016. He was extradited back to Spain and imprisoned but was later released.

At the end of 2017, Woods broke his bail conditions. A European Arrest Warrant was issued, and he was arrested again upon arrival at Heathrow Airport. Lisa’s family hoped he would face trial regarding her disappearance. However, the case was archived by a judge due to insufficient evidence, and no charges were filed.

In October 2018, Lisa’s family were hopeful when the case against Woods was reopened. Their hopes were dashed again when lawyers confirmed Woods would not face prosecution. Woods was later convicted for a separate crime, sentenced to 12 years in prison as part of a €10 million drug ring.

In a new development, Woods has absconded after failing to return from day release at HMP Sudbury on Saturday 19 November. Authorities describe him as approximately 5ft 11in tall, medium build, with short brown hair, brown eyes, and a Liverpool accent.

Lisa’s mother, Helen, criticised the justice system, stating: “What are they doing giving him day release when he was sentenced to 12 years two years ago? He’s in an open prison, free to come and go as he pleases — but then doesn’t bother to return. While we thought he was inside, it gave us some peace that he was paying for his crimes. No—what an absolute joke of a justice system.”

She added, “Especially given his numerous aliases, passports, and help he’s had absconding, he should never have been allowed day release.”
