PC Hussain Chehab, stationed with the North Area Command Unit in Enfield, was arrested in July 2021. This week, he was officially charged with 13 offences involving minors, the Metropolitan Police confirmed on Tuesday.
The charges against PC Chehab include four counts of sexual activity with a girl aged between 13 and 15. Additional allegations consist of five counts related to making, taking, distributing, and encouraging the spread of indecent images of children, as well as engaging in sexual communication with a child. All offences are reported to have occurred between 2019 and 2021.
Following these charges, PC Chehab has been suspended from duty. The Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified and is conducting an investigation. PC Chehab was scheduled to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon.
Addressing the situation, Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, head of the North Area Command Unit, said, “We recognise that this news will raise anxiety among the community, and we have fully engaged with our local partners throughout this inquiry.”
She added, “The Met has launched a thorough review of its standards as part of a real desire to rebuild trust, but I recognise that developments like this undermine that work.”
The Metropolitan Police have urged anyone with concerns about officers’ behaviour to come forward immediately to assist with ongoing investigations and maintain community safety.
