Two Women Die in Tragic Separate Beach Incidents in Cornwall

Two women lost their lives in separate incidents at Cornish beaches on Sunday, casting a sombre shadow over the summer holiday rush.

First Death at Portreath Beach

A woman in her 50s was pulled from the sea at Portreath beach, near St Ives, just after 12:30pm. Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports she was in suspected cardiac arrest. Lifeguards and paramedics battled to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the beach.

Second Tragedy at Porthcothan Beach

Hours later, around 4:20pm, another alarm was raised at Porthcothan beach near Padstow. Concerned after a woman went swimming but never returned, rescuers found her face down in the water. Despite frantic efforts, she could not be revived.

Ongoing Investigations and Safety Warnings

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed neither victim has been formally identified. Investigations into both heartbreaking cases are underway.

“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of both women at this incredibly difficult time. There is no indication that the two incidents are connected,” a police spokesperson said.

The tragedies come amid a bustling summer season, with thousands flocking to the coast. Authorities urge swimmers to stick to lifeguarded areas, follow safety advice, and stay alert to changing sea conditions.
