Local Woman Launches Heartfelt Search for Gosport Ferry ‘Good Samaritan’
A young woman from Gosport is on a mission to find the mysterious Good Samaritan who helped her through dark times during late-night rides on the Gosport Ferry.
The Ferry Guardian Angel
Known only as the “ferry guy,” this kind stranger has saved her from several suicide attempts over the last three years. “He didn’t want a thankyou, but his words have stayed with me for almost a year,” writes Ciara, who shares her story under the pen name Kiwi Can Cope on her blog.
Ciara’s blog began as a way to cope with her mental health struggles. In a poignant entry dated 20th April, she reveals:
“Over the last 3 years, I have tried to commit suicide off of the ‘Faithful Servant’ ferry about 4 or 5 times. Ten people, including the ferry guy, have pulled me back from the edge.”
The Power of a Few Kind Words
Ciara recalls a chance conversation where the man stopped her one night to say,
“How are you doing? You look so much healthier and happier now… it’s nice to see.”
Those words became a lifeline, giving her the strength to turn her life around. “It’s been almost a year since my last attempt. For the first time, I realised life is worth living,” she says.
Now, Ciara hopes to track down her ferry guardian to thank him properly. “I wish I knew his name to write a heartfelt letter, to tell him how incredible he is,” she says.
From Darkness to Hope: One Woman’s Message to You
Her story is a powerful reminder:
- Never underestimate the kindness of strangers;
- One small act could save a life;
- If Kiwi Can Cope, so can you.
Ciara’s blog and experiences shine a light on the importance of reaching out and supporting those battling mental health issues.
