David Walliams’ publisher is to withdraw his existing back catalogue after previously announcing it would no longer publish new books by the comedian and children’s author. HarperCollins is reportedly phasing out remaining print editions, e-books and audiobooks by Walliams, meaning his existing titles will no longer be published by the company once current arrangements are wound down. The move follows allegations concerning Walliams’ conduct towards junior female employees at the publisher, which he has strongly denied. Previous reports alleged that employees had been advised to work with Walliams in pairs and warned against visiting his home alone. It was also reported that a junior member of staff received a five-figure settlement following a complaint. Walliams, 55, has denied behaving inappropriately. In a statement issued through his spokesperson, he said: “David has never been informed of any allegations raised against him by HarperCollins. “He was not party to any investigation or given any opportunity to answer questions. David strongly denies that he has behaved inappropriately and is taking legal advice.” The decision to withdraw Walliams’ existing catalogue represents a significant escalation from the publisher’s earlier decision not to release new titles by him.
