A man extradited to the UK after being arrested in Cyprus has been charged with the murder of Talip Guzel, who was shot dead in Tottenham more than three years ago. Ali Syed, 30, of Knebworth Avenue, Walthamstow, is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday, 18 September 2026, charged with murder and a series of firearms offences. Syed was arrested by Cypriot authorities on Wednesday, 29 June on suspicion of murder before being extradited to the United Kingdom on Tuesday, 15 September. He was charged the same day with murder, four counts of possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a certificate and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.
Talip Guzel fatally shot in White Hart Lane
The charges relate to the death of 33-year-old Talip Guzel, who was fatally shot in White Hart Lane, Tottenham, shortly after 11.30pm on Sunday, 30 July 2023. Metropolitan Police officers attended alongside paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, but despite efforts to save him, Talip was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination subsequently established his cause of death as a gunshot wound. Talip’s family continues to be supported by specialist officers and has been informed of the latest development in the investigation. Syed is due before the Old Bailey today. The charges against him are allegations and he has not been convicted.
