Huseyin Kalyoncu, 34, has been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal killing of his girlfriend, Sonia Parker, 51, at their home on Styles Close, Edenbridge.
At Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, 11 December 2024, Kalyoncu was ordered to serve a minimum of 19 years before he can apply for parole.
The fatal incident followed a violent argument over Ms Parker’s WhatsApp use. Kent Police arrested Kalyoncu on 5 May 2024 after the assault turned deadly. Paramedics attempted to save Ms Parker but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the trial, forensic experts revealed the extent of abuse Ms Parker suffered, documenting 69 injuries including internal bruising, severe liver damage, and multiple broken bones. Some wounds dated back several weeks, indicating a prolonged history of domestic abuse.
Kalyoncu initially pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder when he first appeared in court on 13 June 2024, causing additional distress to Ms Parker’s family.
Detective Superintendent Kathleen Way condemned Kalyoncu’s actions, stating his “inability to control his temper” led to the tragic death and his subsequent life sentence.
Authorities emphasize the importance of recognizing signs of domestic abuse and urge victims to seek help immediately. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, contact local support services or emergency services without delay.
