Tragedy struck in Lincolnshire when a three-month-old baby girl was mauled to death by a dog. Two people have been charged following the fatal attack.
Karen Alcock, 41, and Vince King, 54, both residents of Castledyke Bank, New York, Lincoln, face charges of being in charge of a dog that was out of control and caused injury resulting in death.
Emergency services were called to Ostlers Plantation near Woodhall Spa at 11.13pm on 6 March after reports that baby Kyra King had been seriously injured by the dog. Despite desperate efforts by responders, Kyra was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered severe neck and head injuries.
The dog involved in the attack has been held in secure kennels since the incident. Authorities are now seeking an order to have the animal euthanised.
Lead investigator DC Craig Davey commented, “This has been a profoundly sad investigation for everyone involved. We have worked with forensic experts and our Protecting Vulnerable People unit. Charges have now been brought against two people, and we will continue to work with the CPS as this case proceeds through the courts.”
The couple have been summoned to appear at Boston Magistrates’ Court at 11am on Wednesday 9 November for their initial hearing.
