Barry Thrower, aged 37, has been sentenced to six years in prison after sexually abusing a girl under the age of 13 in Huntingdon last October. The offender forced the child to take part in sexual acts and made her swear secrecy with a “pinky promise.”
The young victim bravely disclosed the abuse to someone close to her the following day, who then alerted the police. Thrower, from King Street, Desborough near Kettering, denied the charges during his police interview but was found guilty at Peterborough Crown Court in May.
Jurors took just over three hours to convict Thrower on two counts of assault and two counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. On Friday, 13 September, he was sentenced to six years imprisonment.
In addition to his prison sentence, Thrower was issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. These measures ensure he will be closely monitored to prevent any future offending.
Detective Constable Les Ellmer commented on the case, stating, “Thrower’s sexual abuse had a huge impact on his victim. We hope she can now find closure. Regardless of when these crimes happen, we take every report seriously. Protecting young people is our top priority.”
Specially trained officers are available to support victims and work to bring offenders like Thrower to justice.
For those concerned about someone in their community, information can be requested under Sarah’s Law. This law allows parents, carers, extended family members, friends, or neighbours to check if an individual poses a risk to children.
