Three drug dealers caught up in the murder case of Murdoch Brown in Colchester have been sentenced to prison for perverting the course of justice. The tragic incident took place in Greenstead, Colchester, where 31-year-old Murdoch Brown was fatally stabbed.
Reece McHutcherson, 20, of Pillow Way, Buckingham, was convicted of Murdoch’s murder following a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court last month. McHutcherson received a life sentence with a minimum term of 20 years.
Several accomplices were also sentenced for their roles in covering up the crime and drug offences. Jay Dice, 23, from Leytonstone, was cleared of murder but found guilty of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and supplying class A drugs. He was sentenced to six years and 19 weeks in prison.
Kayley Hodgkinson, 32, of Cedars Road, Colchester, was convicted of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and received a three-year prison sentence.
Toyn Williams, 29, from Hale End, was cleared of murder and manslaughter but found guilty of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and drug offences. Williams was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
The trio’s attempts to obstruct the murder investigation were unsuccessful, revealing their involvement in a local drug network. A court source stated, “Justice has been served, ensuring those who tried to cover up this brutal murder are held accountable.”
This case serves as a strong warning to anyone who thinks they can assist violent criminals and evade the law.
