Police have launched a murder investigation following the fatal stabbing of a teenage boy in Stratford. The incident took place late on Tuesday evening at Byford Close after reports of a fight in progress.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the teenage victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The community in Stratford has been left shaken by the brutal attack.
An anonymous local resident reported that a heated argument broke out in a nearby park prior to the stabbing.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “A murder investigation has been launched after a teenage boy was fatally stabbed in Stratford yesterday evening. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended following a report of a fight at 18:45hrs on 3 September. Despite the best efforts of medics, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been informed and are being supported. A post-mortem and formal identification will be carried out in due course. No arrests have been made so far, and officers remain at the scene.”
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime team are leading the investigation. A Section 60 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act order has been imposed across Newham until 12:30hrs on 4 September. This gives police enhanced powers to stop and search anyone in the area.
