Godwin Lunghy, 19, from Maple Street N17, has been found guilty of the murders of 20-year-old Sadiq Aadam Mohammed and Abdikarim Hassan, 17, following a brutal stabbing spree in Camden on 20 February 2018.
The violent attacks occurred at Pembury Circus, East London, and resulted in the deaths of two young men within hours. Lunghy was also charged with violent disorder and is scheduled to be sentenced on 6 April.
Abdikarim Hassan was fatally stabbed on Bartholomew Road NW5 at approximately 8.30pm and died at the scene. Less than two hours later, Sadiq Mohammed was found dying from stab wounds on Malden Road NW5 and was pronounced dead despite emergency efforts to save him.
Between these murders, other assaults took place, including an attack on an unidentified man in Hackney and a stabbing of a 17-year-old on Aldenham Street who survived the incident.
Two other men involved in the attacks have already been sentenced to life imprisonment. Isaiah Popoola, 20, received a life sentence with a minimum of 28 years for manslaughter and murder charges, while Ben Drummond, 20, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 23 years. Both men attempted to deny involvement; Popoola was linked to the crimes through stolen van keys and blood evidence, and Drummond falsely claimed he was asleep and fled to Bedford after the attacks.
Detective Chief Inspector John Hughes condemned the violence, stating, “Lunghy, Popoola and Drummond went out that night with the express intention of killing people. They hunted down Abdikarim and Sadiq, brutally stabbing them while masked and heavily outnumbering their victims.” He urged anyone with information about others involved to come forward, adding, “Nothing can bring back Abdikarim and Sadiq, but we must hold all responsible accountable.”
After the attacks, Lunghy fled to France but was tracked down and arrested through cooperation between the National Crime Agency and French police. He was extradited back to the UK to face justice.
Judge Richard Marks QC described the violence as “an orgy of street violence” during the sentencing of Popoola and Drummond, calling the extent of the attacks “truly shocking.” The investigation to identify and prosecute other accomplices continues, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police’s Homicide and Major Crime Command immediately.
