A Kent police officer was injured after being struck by a lead ball bearing thrown from Broadway Bridge while patrolling the River Medway in Maidstone.
The incident occurred at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, 12 March 2019, when the ball bearing was hurled from the bridge and hit a river patrol officer on a boat below, causing an injury to his hand.
Chief Inspector Nick Sparkes from Kent Police’s Tactical Operations Command warned about the serious danger posed by the attack. He said, “If the ball bearing had struck the officer in the face or head it could easily have led to a serious injury.”
Police are keen to understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident and are eager to speak with two young men who were seen on Broadway Bridge just before the attack.
