A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a woman discovered dead at a home in Cedars Gardens, Withdean, Brighton.

The boy, whose identity is legally protected, was charged on Friday evening, 8 January 2021, following the Crown Prosecution Service’s approval. He is set to appear in custody at Brighton Magistrates Court on Saturday, 9 January.

While formal identification is yet to be completed, the deceased is believed to be Susan Addis, 69, who lived at the address where her body was found on Thursday evening, 7 January. Susan was found with stab wounds. A postmortem on Monday, 11 January, will confirm the exact cause of death.

“At this very sad and distressing time, the family kindly asks that all media respect their privacy. The family are currently in a state of shock,” police said. They have declined to make any further comments.

Police confirmed the boy and the deceased knew each other. No other suspects are being sought, and there is no threat to the local community. The Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team are leading the investigation alongside local officers.
