Mohamed Muhyidin, 28, was fatally shot while sitting in a car outside a block of flats in Harlington early on 31 October 2021. His body was later found dumped by the roadside in Sipson Lane, discovered by a taxi driver.
Detective Inspector Lucy Carberry of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command revealed that Mohamed was killed by his associate, Chiragh Chiragh, who was carrying a sub-machine gun at the time. “It is accepted that Chiragh accidentally discharged the firearm while both men sat in the car,” she said.
The plans for the evening were abruptly cut short, leading to a desperate attempt to cover up the incident. After the shooting, Mohamed’s body was dumped, and the car was set on fire in an effort to destroy evidence.
On the night before the shooting, Chiragh, Mohamed, Mohammed Shakeel, and a 17-year-old were at a flat on High Street in Harlington that was used as a base for drug dealing. A dispute with other men escalated when Shakeel brandished an imitation pistol, increasing tensions.
Throughout the night, Chiragh was seen carrying a sub-machine gun, while Shakeel had the imitation firearm. At approximately 4.45am, Chiragh joined Mohamed in a car outside the flat, gun in hand, and fired the fatal shot. He then dropped the silencer and fired multiple times as chaos unfolded.
Following the shooting, Chiragh drove Mohamed’s body to Sipson Lane and abandoned it there before leaving the car near West Drayton. The 17-year-old later set fire to the vehicle after purchasing fuel at a petrol station.
Police recovered bullet cartridges and the silencer at both the scene and the flat. Chiragh and Shakeel were arrested on 5 November, with the teenager taken into custody on 9 November. Digital forensics and CCTV evidence linked all three individuals to the crime.
All three now face charges related to the shooting and subsequent cover-up.
Detective Inspector Carberry stated: “While Chiragh may not have meant to kill Mohamed, they were all clearly prepared to use violence. They conspired to hide the truth after the shooting. All have now faced justice. I thank Mohamed’s family for their strength during this difficult trial, and hope today’s verdicts bring them closure.”
Chiragh Chiragh, 39, was convicted of manslaughter and possession of a firearm with intent. He had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a prohibited weapon and perverting the course of justice.
Mohammed Shakeel, 29, was found guilty of perverting the course of justice and had earlier pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm with intent.
The 17-year-old male pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.
All three are due to be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on 10 February.
