Desperate 999 Call Saves 12 Trapped in Lorry

Cambridgeshire Police pulled off a dramatic rescue after a chilling 999 call from a man trapped in the back of a lorry. With just 1% battery left, he begged the operator, “We are dying, can you save us?”

Forced into Frightening Conditions

The harrowing audio reveals the panic inside the vehicle. The caller described cramped, freezing conditions, saying there were pregnant women and children on board. They had been banging on the sides of the lorry for hours, desperate to alert the driver.

“We need help, please, ma’am. We are dying, can you help us please?”

The calm operator reassured him that officers were searching and urged patience, despite the man’s inability to give an exact location.

Lorry Found Near Huntingdon – All Rescued Safe

Acting fast, police located the lorry in Alconbury Weald near Huntingdon. Inside, 12 people—including five children aged 15 to 17—were found crammed on pallets of fruit. Thankfully, all were unharmed, though cold and terrified. Paramedics gave them food, drink, and health checks at the scene.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “The man had just 1% battery left and was deeply worried for everyone on board. We’re relieved to say no one was harmed.”

Driver Arrested and Released; Children Now in Police Protection

The lorry’s driver was initially arrested on suspicion of human trafficking but later released with no further action. Meanwhile, the rescued children have been placed under police protection as the investigation continues.
