Transport for London (TfL) is set to resume vital repairs on the A40 Westway following a Christmas break. Starting Friday, January 3, until Monday, February 17, the eastbound lanes will be closed every weekend.
The closures will take place from 10pm on Fridays until 5pm on Mondays between the Westway roundabout and Marylebone flyover. Signed diversions will be in place to help drivers navigate around the affected areas and reduce traffic disruption.
The repair work focuses on the 50-year-old expansion joints that allow the elevated road to accommodate temperature changes. These joints are crucial for maintaining the stability and safety of the flyover.
After the eastbound repairs are completed in mid-February, the westbound lanes will undergo similar maintenance from February 21 to May 19. Notably, there will be no weekend closures during the Bank Holidays on April 18–21, May 2–5, and May 23–26.
A TfL spokesperson said, “This maintenance is essential to ensure the long-term safety and reliability of the Westway. We thank the public for their patience as we carry out these vital improvements.” Locals and businesses will receive regular updates regarding progress and any impacts.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time on weekends during the closures and to consider alternative routes or public transport options to avoid delays.
This seven-month project forms part of TfL’s broader initiative to modernize London’s ageing infrastructure. Further updates will be provided as the work progresses.
