Fire crews from Leyton, Walthamstow, and East Ham rushed to Hollow Pond. Armed with inflatable rescue boats and specialist water gear, the firefighters battled icy conditions to reach the boys. By 5:35pm GMT, both children were safely pulled from the frigid water.
London Fire Brigade Issues Urgent Ice Warning
The London Fire Brigade has responded to more than 14 ice-related emergencies in just one week alone. They issued a blunt warning to the public:
“Stay well away from frozen ponds and lakes – thinning ice can break and become deadly in seconds.”
