Unsafe Products Gone from eBay After Safety Scare

All listings for certain products were pulled from eBay after a major safety check found them dangerously unsafe. Shipments arrived at the UK port in October and November but were stopped by officials. Samples were sent for testing and failed to meet the strict Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008.

Safety Hazards Put Users at Risk of Injury or Death

The main issue? Poor installation instructions that could cause serious harm or even death. Manuals lacked crucial details like:

  • Measurements for correct installation
  • Minimum safe distance between exhaust pipes and flammable or toxic materials (like insulation)
  • Warnings about heat dangers if installed improperly

Many manuals were written in broken English with confusing or incorrect wording, making it hard to understand. Even more worrying — the products and paperwork did not display the importer or manufacturer’s address, nor did they include the essential Declaration of Conformity (DoC).

What is a Declaration of Conformity (DoC)?

A DoC is a formal statement from the manufacturer confirming that a product meets all safety standards. Without it, the product’s safety cannot be guaranteed.
