Floods Hit Lancaster and Galgate Hard

Relentless downpours flooded properties in Lancaster and Galgate. The A6 at Galgate shut both ways as 27 residents were moved into two nearby pubs for safety.

Emergency Services Battle Flood Disaster

Lancashire Police, Fire & Rescue, Environment Agency, and Lancaster City Council scrambled to handle the crisis. They responded to over 500 calls and tackled 100+ incidents across the county.

Massive Disruptions to Travel

Drivers warned to avoid junction 33 on the M6 and use junction 34 instead. Expect delays on all routes into Lancaster as flooding issues continue.

A Lancashire Constabulary spokesman said: “The flood gates around Garstang and Catterall were opened and coped well with the rain that fell.”

“There was unprecedented flooding in Thornton Cleveleys, Cleveleys, Preesall, Galgate and on Devonshire Road in Blackpool. All agencies worked really hard in a co-ordinated effort to minimise disruption and protect the public and we will continue to support those communities worst affected.”

“The focus is now firmly on supporting those communities which have been most affected.”
