Heartbreak in Morocco: British Girl Vanishes in Atlantic Ocean
Tragedy hit a Blackburn family holiday when seven-year-old Inaayah Makda was swept into the Atlantic Ocean near Casablanca, Morocco. Sitting on rocks, little Inaayah was pulled under as stormy seas struck. Her parents, Zubair and Tasneem Makda, were also caught in the waves but lost sight of their daughter.
The family had only just started their week-long getaway when disaster unfolded.

Rescue teams scrambled to find Inaayah using drones and water scooters along the jagged coast. But relentless storms and heavy rain have made the search a nightmare. The Moroccan army has stepped in to help with flood rescue and evacuations as time ticks on.

“Inaayah is our only child. She’s bright, loving, and full of laughter – deeply cherished by us all,” the Makdas shared in a moving social media post.
“We cling to hope she might have reached safety. But if the worst has happened, we want to bring her home with dignity and closure.”
The family slammed the UK Foreign Office for “limited practical support.” They demand the government pushes Moroccan authorities for a larger, coordinated search—though they aren’t asking to take charge themselves.
“This isn’t about blame. It’s about a little girl loved and missed, and parents desperate to find her,” the plea added.
Community Rallies as MP Demands Government Steps Up
Support is flooding in. A fundraiser has smashed £61,000, and local volunteers are central to ongoing search efforts. Blackburn MP Adnan Hussain called the case “utterly heartbreaking” and urged the Foreign Office to do more.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British national reported missing in Morocco and are in contact with local authorities. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
