Royal Mail has unveiled a stunning new collection of 10 stamps to celebrate 200 years of British railway history. This dazzling series honours some of the most iconic steam locomotives and the pioneers who helped build the UK’s legendary rail network.
The main stamp set features six legendary steam engines that revolutionised rail travel across Britain: Locomotion No. 1, Rocket, City of Truro, Mallard, Duchess of Hamilton, and Evening Star.
Alongside the main set, Royal Mail has released a special limited-edition four-stamp miniature sheet to mark the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, which first opened in 1825. The miniature sheet includes artwork depicting the historic opening of the S&DR in 1825, a vintage image of Locomotion No. 1 at Darlington circa 1890, a centenary postcard from 1925, and a photo of the Locomotion No. 1 replica from 1975.
Railway enthusiasts and stamp collectors can pre-order these collectible sets and related memorabilia starting 18 September. Orders can be placed online at www.royalmail.com/steam or by calling 03457 641641.
Royal Mail collaborated with the National Railway Museum and Darlington Council to bring this historic stamp issue to life, celebrating two centuries of UK rail heritage.
