Isle of Wight Anti-War Campaigners Launch New ‘Stop The War’ Committee
Local activists gathered in Newport on 16th April to kick-start a fresh “Stop The War” committee, aiming to champion peace across the Isle of Wight and beyond. The crowd united in a powerful chant: No War in Our Name, urging an immediate halt to UK bombings in Syria.
Speeches Slam UK Government’s Bombing Policy
The event featured passionate speeches condemning the use of chemical weapons while rejecting bombing as a solution. Ventnor’s Ken Knapman spoke for many, demanding public control over war decisions.
“Decision making must not lie with the Prime Minister or Cabinet – but with the will of the people, where our consciences are expressed. Disputes should be resolved by other means rather than war.” – Ken Knapman
Protesters Rally Against Government Actions
Demonstrators raised banners reading “Don’t Bomb Syria” and took turns on the microphone to criticise government bombing policies. Voices included Labour’s Mark Chiverton, 1 party’s Vix Lowthion, and other local campaigners inspired to speak out.
