Hero Dog Saves Man From House Fire in Yeovil

Firefighters from Yeovil rushed to a house fire after an alarm from Careline went off. The smoke detector sounded, and occupant Mr Green initially answered the call from Careline. But contact was quickly lost.

Rapid Response and Rescue

Within six minutes, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue teams were at the scene. They heard the alarm blaring but couldn’t reach Mr Green inside. With curtains closed and no sight inside, all they could hear was a dog barking. The front door was locked tight.

Then, a stroke of luck: the door clicked open. Fire crews entered to find Mr Green collapsed in the kitchen and a fire starting on the cooker. They quickly called paramedics, extinguished the flames, and ventilated the property.

Chi Chi the Brave Dog Opens Door to Save Life

Firefighters gave first aid and stabilised Mr Green until the ambulance arrived. Later, they discovered that Mr Green’s dog, Chi Chi, had managed to open the front door, letting the crew in just in time.

Ian Bolton, Crew Manager at Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our partnership with Careline means we can react within minutes to save lives. This is a fantastic success story. Careline’s alerts and our quick crew response saved Mr Green. And the cherry on top? Chi Chi opening the door before we had to break it down.”

Partnership Between Careline and Fire Service Proves Life-Saving

South Somerset District Council (SSDC) praised the joint effort: “Careline and the fire service partnership has been a success for years. Customers get free home fire safety visits, including fitted alarms linked directly to Careline. This incident shows just how vital the partnership is.”

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue offers FREE home fire safety visits. Friendly Home Safety Technicians will discuss fire safety and provide specialist equipment if needed. Visits take just 45 minutes and could save your life.
