Tragic M6 Crash Claims Life of Rochdale Man
Police have named one victim in a fatal M6 crash that shocked motorists on Monday, February 28. Florentin Lepadat, 51, from Rochdale, died instantly when his Volkswagen Passat collided with a white Mercedes van between junctions 39 and 40 on the northbound carriageway at 11:18am.
Deadly Smash Leaves Two Dead, One Injured
Despite desperate efforts from bystanders, Mr Lepadat was confirmed dead at the scene. Another passenger in the Passat also died but has not yet been formally identified. Police are working with the community in Rochdale to name the second victim.
A third passenger, a 31-year-old man, was rushed to Cumberland Infirmary and is now in stable condition.
Van Driver and Passenger Treated Then Released
The 31-year-old driver of the Mercedes van, from Gloucestershire, was taken to hospital but later discharged. A passenger in the van was also treated and sent home.
Police Appeal for Dashcam Footage
Officers are urging anyone who was driving on the M6 north or southbound between 10am and 11:30am on February 28 to come forward. Dashcam footage could be crucial to the investigation.
