University of Greenwich Dismisses Meningitis Outbreak Fears

The University of Greenwich has slammed down panic over a potential meningitis outbreak on campus. No students or staff have reported any cases, and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has not flagged any concerns.

A university spokesperson said: “At this time, the University of Greenwich can confirm that we have had no notice from the UKHSA of any cases. We also have had no information from any of our staff or students notifying us of cases.”

Escape Studios Student Hospitalised But On Mend

Nearby Escape Studios, known for game development, VFX, and animation courses, revealed one of their students was hospitalised after contracting meningitis. This case is linked to the ongoing berkshire999.co.uk/where/kent/" title="Kent" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="6169">Kent outbreak.

Escape Studios posted on their website: “We have been made aware that an individual attending Escape Studios had been admitted to hospital after contracting meningitis. We understand that the individual is now recovering well, and our Student Services Team is offering support.”

The school added it’s working closely with UKHSA and local health teams. Close contacts have been contacted directly and given safety advice.

Kent Meningitis Outbreak: 15 Confirmed Cases, But Risk Remains Low

The UKHSA confirmed 15 lab-verified meningitis cases linked to the Kent outbreak, with 12 additional potential cases under investigation. Four confirmed cases involve students at Kent schools, plus one higher education student in London—likely the Escape Studios case.

Despite the cluster, the UKHSA insists the risk to the wider public remains low, urging calm and vigilance.
