Face-Tattooed Suspect Wanted After Brutal Acid Attack on Birthday Duo
A terrifying acid attack has left two Asian cousins with life-changing injuries during a 21st birthday celebration in East London. Jameel Muhktar, 37, and Resham Khan were viciously sprayed with a corrosive liquid at 9.15am last Wednesday, forcing emergency surgery and a police manhunt.
Suspect on the Run
Police are hunting John Tomlin, 24, described as a stocky 6ft tall white man with distinctive face tattoos. He is known to frequent Canning Town and is wanted for questioning. The Met has issued a strong warning: do not approach him. Anyone spotting Tomlin should call 999 immediately.
Attack Caught Off Guard
The cousins had stopped at traffic lights in Tollgate Road, Canning Town, when the suspect struck. Tomlin allegedly threw acid through Resham’s car window, hitting her first. He then circled the vehicle and doused Jameel before fleeing. The violently racist attack left Jameel “unrecognisable,” with doctors rushing him into surgery shortly after.
Police Link Attack to Multiple Incidents
Authorities believe this chilling assault is racially motivated and may be connected to up to four similar incidents in the area. Detective Superintendent Neil Matthews condemned the outrage as a “horrendous act of violence,” urging the public to assist police but stay clear of the suspect.
“This male should not be approached; instead members of the public should dial 999 immediately if seen.”
If you have any information, contact the Metropolitan Police or Crimestoppers to help bring this dangerous man to justice.
