Eight-Vehicle Pile-Up Closes M27 Near Whiteley
A major smash involving eight vehicles has brought the M27 near Whiteley to a standstill tonight. The multi-car crash occurred just after 9.30pm on Sunday at Junction 9, causing chaos on this busy Hampshire motorway.
Emergency Crews Battle to Free Trapped Driver
Firefighters from three areas raced to the scene and faced a tough rescue. One man was trapped by his legs in his wrecked car for over an hour. Heroic crews used cutting gear to free him safely. The middle-aged driver was stabilised by paramedics and rushed to QA Hospital in Cosham for urgent treatment.
“We got the call at 10.37pm,” said a Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson. “Eight vehicles were involved. The trapped driver was treated on-site before being released after about 60 minutes.”
Air Ambulance Stalled by Poor Weather
There was talk of the Air Ambulance being sent in, but it was grounded due to bad weather. Instead, two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, and a paramedic officer rushed to assist.
M27 Closure Causes Overnight Traffic Nightmare
The motorway was shut in both directions for hours. The Highways Agency warned that the eastbound carriageway would remain closed until after 1am Monday morning, forcing drivers to seek alternatives.
Motorists are urged to expect delays and find alternative routes while recovery and investigations continue.
