A motorcyclist who repeatedly flouted speed limits and was caught travelling at more than twice the legal limit has been banned from driving and handed a suspended prison sentence. Barnaby Bowers-Hall, 22, of Kel Avon Close, Truro, admitted a string of driving offences after a fixed speed camera on Longdowns recorded him exceeding the 30mph limit on 36 separate occasions between 23 May and 2 August 2024. On one occasion, Bowers-Hall was caught riding his motorcycle at 77mph in a 30mph zone while carrying a passenger. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance, and fraudulent use of a registration mark. Appearing at Truro Crown Court on 30 July 2026, Bowers-Hall was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to comply with a two-month electronically monitored curfew. Before he can return to the road, he must successfully complete an extended driving test. David Routley, Force Operations Manager in the Road Safety Team, said: “It was clear from Bowers-Hall’s repeated and deliberate breaches of the speed limit that he showed a complete disregard for the safety of other road users and pedestrians. “Speeding remains one of the leading causes of deaths and serious injuries on our roads, and it is an offence that we will continue to treat seriously and tackle robustly. “Keeping people safe from harm is at the heart of everything we do and taking action against careless and dangerous drivers is a key part of our commitment to making our roads safer for everyone.” The investigation was led by Devon & Cornwall Police’s Road Safety Team and Camborne Speed Detection Officers, working alongside Vision Zero South West. Police say speeding remains one of the “Fatal Five” factors most commonly linked to deaths and serious injuries on Devon and Cornwall’s roads. The other four are drink and drug driving, failing to wear a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving, and careless or dangerous driving. Vision Zero South West brings together police, fire and rescue services, healthcare professionals, local authorities and the Police and Crime Commissioner with the aim of halving the number of people killed or seriously injured on the region’s roads by 2030, with the long-term ambition of eliminating fatal and serious collisions altogether.
