Nearly 60 firefighters are currently battling a fierce blaze near Caledonian Road in Islington, with eight fire engines deployed to tackle the flames.

The fire erupted inside an indoor recycling plant, engulfing a mechanical digger and a massive mound of domestic rubbish in towering flames.

Motorists are facing major delays around the Caledonian Road and College Road junction as heavy traffic builds up. Authorities have issued warnings to avoid the area to help ease severe congestion.

The London Fire Brigade was alerted to the fire at 9:30 am. Fire crews from Holloway, Islington, Kentish Town, Euston, and nearby stations responded quickly to the incident. A 32-metre turntable ladder from Soho Fire Station is being used to combat the blaze.

Investigation teams are currently on site searching for clues, but the cause of the fire remains unknown.
