The London Fire Brigade responded to a significant fire at a recycling centre located on Landmann Way, Bermondsey, south east London, shortly after 5.30pm on June 8. Approximately 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines were deployed to tackle the blaze, which continued late into the night.

Fire crews from Deptford, Old Kent Road, Greenwich, and nearby stations attended the incident. Two 32-metre turntable ladders were used to combat the fire from above. The Brigade’s Drone Team supported the Incident Commander by providing aerial views, aiding in the assessment and firefighting strategy.

Station Commander Wayne Bloomfield reported that the fire consumed a large quantity of refuse and damaged the roof of a warehouse unit. Additionally, a van and a car were destroyed in the fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze just before midnight.

One man received treatment at the scene from the London Ambulance Service. Due to the heavy smoke, residents in the area were advised to keep their doors and windows shut. There were also reports of loose embers, which are common in large fires. Residents were urged to extinguish any embers with water and to call 999 immediately if any fires started near their homes.

The London Fire Brigade and relevant authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire at this busy south east London recycling facility.
