Blazing Inferno Hits Battersea: Eight Fire Engines in Action
Chaos erupted on Battersea Park Road as a fierce fire tore through a three-storey building. Firefighters scrambled to the scene with eight engines and 60 crew members battling thick smoke and raging flames.
Flats and Shops Engulfed in Flames
The blaze broke out on the second floor of a building packed with shops at street level and flats above. Dense smoke rolled through the area, forcing locals to keep windows and doors firmly shut amid health fears.
Massive Fire Response and Road Closures Cause Traffic Mayhem
The London Fire Brigade was hit with 17 emergency calls, the first at 2:28pm. Units from Clapham, Battersea, Lambeth, Brixton, and nearby stations rushed to the scene. A towering 32-metre turntable ladder from Clapham Fire Station was deployed to slice through the smoke and flames.
Road closures around Battersea Park Road have caused serious traffic jams as firefighters work at full throttle to tame the blaze.
