Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters fought a fierce blaze on Hale End Road, Walthamstow. The fire ripped through a terraced house, taking out part of the ground floor, first floor, and most of the roof.
Neighbours’ Roofs Also Catch Fire
Flames didn’t stop there. Small fires broke out on the roofs of two neighbouring houses. Fire crews used one of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders as a water tower, dousing the flames from above. The fire was brought under control by 1.41pm.
Smoke Causes Local Warning
Residents nearby were urged to keep windows and doors shut as smoke drifted through the area. Authorities warned people to avoid the vicinity due to ongoing traffic disruption.
Blaze Under Investigation
Fire control officers received the first call at 10.19am, quickly mobilising crews from Walthamstow, Woodford, Leyton, and neighbouring stations. Although the fire is now under control, firefighters will remain on scene throughout the afternoon to fully extinguish lingering flames. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
