Daredevil Climbs Tower Bridge, Causes Chaos for Hours
A man sparked mayhem this morning by scaling the iconic Tower Bridge and hanging on for nearly two hours. Police have now confirmed he was safely brought down, ending the drama.
Bridge Shut Down, Traffic Gridlocked
The standoff began around 10.30am on March 10 when onlookers spotted the man high above the Thames. As a safety measure, Tower Bridge was closed in both directions, snarling traffic between East Smithfield near Tower Hill and Queen Elizabeth Street. Emergency teams rushed to the scene to negotiate with the climber.
Man Brought Down Safely, Bridge Set to Reopen
At 12.32pm, City of London Police announced the man had been coaxed down from the railings unharmed. “The man has safely come down from the railings on Tower Bridge,” a police statement said. “The bridge will reopen shortly. Thank you for your patience.”
Images on social media showed a heavy emergency presence as crews worked to resolve the tense situation.
Second High-Profile Climb in Days
This incident follows hot on the heels of another daring London climb. On March 8, a pro-Palestinian protester scaled Big Ben’s Elizabeth Tower and stayed perched for 16 hours before police intervened. Authorities haven’t confirmed if today’s stunt was protest-related or if the man will face charges.
Tower Bridge is now reopening to traffic and pedestrians after hours of disruption.
