  • Nearby houses were evacuated as police sealed off the area.
  • Major road closures hit Cirencester Road between Hampton Road, near The Ragged Cot Inn, and the A419 roundabout.
  • Gypsy Lane remains closed, with delays expected while the inquiry continues.
  • National Grid crews worked overnight to fix a damaged power cable, restoring electricity to around 20 homes.

Officials Speak Out: Community in Mourning

Supt. Anton Campbell, local policing lead, said: “This upsetting news comes just weeks after the fatal fire in nearby Brimscombe. We share the community’s pain and send our thoughts to the man’s family. We thank evacuated residents for their patience and praise emergency crews for their tireless efforts. Officers will stay visible in the area as the investigation unfolds.”

Matt Amey, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Area Manager, added: “We understand the community’s shock, especially so soon after Brimscombe.
