Man Airlifted From Tanker in Dramatic English Channel Rescue
A man was airlifted by the coastguard rescue helicopter “Rescue 175” after an emergency onboard an oil tanker in the rough English Channel.
Dangerous Conditions for High-Stakes Rescue
The rescue took place around 8.30pm, about 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight. The engineer, suffering from kidney stones, was winched up in treacherous seas described as dangerous by rescuers.
Swift Medical Evacuation to Southampton
After being airlifted, the patient was flown back to Lee-on-the-Solent. The Hillhead Coastguard search and rescue team, based at the same location, scrambled to assist with the medical transfer to Southampton General Hospital.
The quick response highlights the bravery and skill of the coastguard teams in tackling emergencies on the Channel’s choppy waters.
