Three Crew Members Missing After Two Boats Collide and One Sinks Off West Sussex
Major Search Underway Along West Sussex Coast
Lifeboat crews and the coastguard are scrambling along the West Sussex coast after two boats collided about two miles offshore, causing one to sink. Three crew members are missing, with a massive sea and land search now in full swing.
One Rescued, Three Still Missing
The dramatic collision happened near Worthing pier. A fourth person was pulled from the water and rushed to hospital. The three missing crew are believed to be Romanian nationals.
Coordination Between Air, Sea and Land Rescue Teams
The search was triggered just before 6am when a man was spotted struggling in the water by a fishing boat. Helicopters from 1 and Lee-on-Solent, along with coastguard rescue teams from Shoreham and Littlehampton, plus RNLI lifeboats from Shoreham and Brighton, are combing the area. Several local vessels have also joined the hunt.
Andy Jenkins, UK Coastguard controller, said: “The information we have received says there are potentially three others who are in the water. We are carrying out an extensive search for them.”
Coastguard officials warn that others who were on a small vessel could also be in the water.
