M3 Crash Chaos: Overturned Vehicle Sparks Major Morning Diversion
A serious collision involving an overturned vehicle has slammed the M3 in Hampshire this morning, causing major delays and lane closures. Emergency services are at the scene managing the crash and helping the injured.
Crash Shuts M3 Near Winchester Services
The smash happened near junction 8 by the Winchester (M3 1) services on the southbound carriageway. A car and a van collided, leaving two people with serious injuries who have been rushed to hospital.
Southbound Carriageway Closed, Long Diversions in Place
Police have shut the entire southbound carriageway at junction 8 and also closed lane 2 on the northbound side. The closure is expected to last through the morning rush hour, with drivers forced to divert off the M3 onto the A303.
Traffic Officers Help Stranded Drivers
Highways England officers are on hand assisting the backlog of vehicles caught in the closures. Police urge drivers to expect delays and plan alternative routes where possible.
“We are currently dealing with a serious collision involving a car and a van at junction 8, near Winchester services,” said a Hampshire Police spokesperson. “The southbound carriageway closure will remain for most of the morning, but we hope to reopen the northbound lane sooner.”
