A serious crash has closed the eastbound carriageway of the M27 between junctions 11 and 12 near Fareham this morning. The pile-up occurred just before 7am, causing major delays and traffic gridlock.
The collision involved at least five vehicles, including a Vauxhall Corsa, a BMW X5, and a motorcycle. Two other cars are also believed to have been part of the incident. Witnesses reported seeing a motorcyclist lying in the road amid the wreckage.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, with two lanes closed, resulting in long queues and delays of up to two hours. Three ambulances, two rapid response teams, and a hazardous area response unit were dispatched. Police and Highways England are managing traffic, while recovery crews work to clear the wreckage.
The motorcyclist was taken to QA Hospital in Cosham with neck, arm, and leg injuries. Fortunately, these injuries are not thought to be serious. Two other individuals involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.
A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said, “We were called just before 7am regarding five cars and a motorcycle. The motorcyclist has neck, arm and leg injuries, while two others suffered minor injuries.”
The motorway remains partially closed this morning as recovery teams continue their work. Motorists are advised to expect significant delays and to seek alternative routes where possible.
