Police shut down the M27 eastbound near Ower this afternoon after a dramatic crash left a 4×4 Mitsubishi Shogun flipped onto its roof. The vehicle collided with a red LDV van just after junction 2, shortly before 2pm.

Firefighters from Redbridge, Cosham, Eastleigh, and St Mary’s raced to the wreck. They secured the overturned 4×4, which thankfully had an untrapped driver. The injured driver was handed over to police and South Central Ambulance Service for care.

Officials closed the eastbound on-slip and all three lanes, sparking huge delays. Recovery teams battled to clear the scene, forcing snarled-up traffic for miles.

UPDATE: All lanes have now reopened after vehicles were shifted onto the hard shoulder. Drivers are urged to stay alert and report any information on the crash to Hampshire Roads Policing via 101.
