The M25 clockwise between Junction 25 (Waltham Cross) and Junction 26 (Waltham Abbey) in Hertfordshire is currently closed following a police-led incident. Emergency services remain at the scene, although the exact details of the incident have not been disclosed.
Motorists are experiencing major delays and widespread disruption this afternoon as a result of the closure.
National Highways has implemented an official diversion route, which is marked by a hollow triangle on road signs. Drivers are advised to follow this route: exit the M25 at Junction 25, take the third exit at the roundabout onto the A10 southbound towards London, continue to the Great Cambridge Junction and take the first exit onto the A406 North Circular eastbound, then join the M11 northbound at Junction 4, and finally exit at M11 Junction 6 to re-join the M25 clockwise.
National Highways has issued travel advice, warning drivers to expect heavy delays, allow extra journey time, consider alternative routes, or delay travel if possible. Traffic is already backing up near the closure.
For the latest traffic updates, motorists can check Traffic England or contact the National Highways 24/7 contact centre at 0300 123 5000.
Authorities thank motorists for their patience while emergency services manage the situation.
