The M2 eastbound is currently blocked from Junction 5 to Junction 6 after a serious crash involving an overturned vehicle. Drivers in Kent are facing delays of at least 30 minutes, with traffic backing up for miles.

Kent Fire and Rescue, paramedics, and police responded swiftly to the incident. An off-duty doctor and an off-duty police officer who were already at the scene provided life-saving first aid to the trapped victims before emergency services arrived.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutters to remove a car door and a B-post, successfully freeing two people who were trapped inside the vehicle. Both casualties were carefully extracted on longboards and handed over to the South East Coast Ambulance Service for urgent medical care.

The M2 closure is expected to remain in place for some time. Drivers are advised to follow the diversion route to avoid the hold-up:

Exit the M2 at Junction 5 and follow signs marked with a black circle. Take the A249 southbound to Junction 7 of the M20. Join the M20 eastbound towards the coast. Leave the M20 at Junction 8 and follow the A20 eastbound to Charing. Then switch onto the A252 Faversham Road eastbound. Finally, turn left at the A251 junction and head north to rejoin the M2 at Junction 6.

Motorists are urged to stay tuned for further updates as emergency services work to clear the scene and reopen the motorway.
