A listeria scare has led to an urgent recall of multiple goat cheese products by Lactalis McLelland. The bacteria responsible, listeria, can cause severe flu-like symptoms and poses significant health risks, especially to the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

The affected products include:

  • Cricket St. Thomas Capricorn Goat Cheese – 100g, use by 26 May 2023
  • Somerset Capricorn Goat Cheese – 100g, use by 26 May 2023
  • Somerset Capricorn Goat Cheese – 85g, use by 26 May 2023
  • Co-op Goat Cheese – 85g, use by 26 May 2023

Retailers have placed point-of-sale warnings in stores to alert customers. Shoppers are strongly advised not to consume the recalled cheeses. Instead, they should return the products to the original place of purchase to receive a full refund.

Consumers are encouraged to check their refrigerators immediately if they have recently purchased any goat cheese products to ensure their safety.
