Bembridge Spruces Up Lane End Ahead of Village Awards
Lane End in Bembridge has been given a fresh new look as part of a community blitz to brighten up the village. Volunteers from Island Roads teamed up with local lengthsmen and the Green Town steering group to overhaul the Lane End car park – one of several projects gearing up for the Best Kept Village awards.
Major Makeover: New Plants and Fresh Paint
The revamp saw scruffy shrubs dug out and replaced with vibrant red Escalonias. Walls and steps got a fresh coat of paint, benches were varnished, and shrub beds near the toilet block received some careful attention. Bembridge parish clerk Emma Goldring hailed the two-day effort, saying the changes have made a “marked improvement” to the area.

Island Roads Staff Step Up
Island Roads’ operations manager Dave Wallis praised his team’s role in the makeover. “We were delighted to help out through our volunteering scheme, which gives staff two days’ leave to support local good causes or projects.” Those lending a hand included supervisor Nigel Smith and operatives Steve Probert and Mark Davis.
