Pauncefoot Hill Northbound is currently closed after a serious crash involving a VW van on the A27 Romsey Bypass.

Two fire crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue, based in Romsey and Eastleigh, were dispatched to the scene shortly after lunchtime today.

The VW van collided with a tree and ended up off the road, trapping a 54-year-old man inside the vehicle.

Firefighters used specialist equipment to free the man from the wreckage. Although his exact injuries are not yet known, he was conscious and breathing when rescued.

The man was handed over to the South Central Ambulance Service and transported to Southampton General Hospital for further treatment.
