Homes Evacuated as Massive Fire Rips Through Northfleet Leisure Centre
Dozens of homes in Snelling Avenue, Northfleet, were evacuated after a huge blaze tore through the derelict Fleet Leisure and Sports Club on Nelson Road. The fire broke out around 6.30pm on Tuesday evening, sending massive plumes of thick black smoke visible for miles.
Six Fire Crews Battle Fierce Flames
Kent Fire and Rescue have deployed six fire engines and 35 firefighters to tackle the inferno engulfing the now-closed leisure centre, which shut down back in 2013. A spokesman urged locals to keep windows and doors firmly shut to avoid smoke inhalation.
Injuries Unknown, Investigation Ongoing
At this stage, it is unclear if anyone has been injured or reported missing. Emergency services remain on the scene as the fire rages on.
